Easy Milk & Semolina Cake

Cake Batter Ingredients:

  • 1/3 c. Semolina Flour
  • 1/3 c. Flour
  • 1 T. Baking Powder
  • ½ tsp. Vanilla
  • 1/3 c. Milk
  • 3 Eggs

Milk Syrup Ingredients:

  • 3 c. Milk
  • 1 ½ c. Sugar

  1. Mix together both Flours and Baking Powder.
  2. Add Vanilla, Milk and Eggs. Mix well.
  3. Pour batter into a greased 8×8-inch pan.
  4. Bake at 350oF for 15-20 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  5. While the cake is baking, pour 3 c. Milk into a pot on the stove over low heat.
  6. Slowly stir the milk as it begins to warm, about 2 minutes.
  7. Add the Sugar and continue stirring. The Milk should not boil, but be warm enough that it completely melts all of the Sugar granules. Remove from heat.
  8. As soon as the cake comes out of the oven, use the toothpick to gently poke holes all over the cake. (This is the especially fun part for children!)
  9. Pour the warm milk syrup on top of the cake. (Don’t be shocked if it completely covers the cake; you haven’t ruined it. The liquid will slowly sink into the cake as you let it rest.) After resting about 20-30 minutes on the counter, refrigerate until cool.
  10. Once cooled, the cake is ready to be cut and served. Turks like serving everything with fancy garnishes. Best to use for this cake is: Coconut Flakes, Walnuts, Chopped Pistachio Nuts.

* This recipe is especially easy and fun for children to make! With so few ingredients and measurements, they can easily take control in the kitchen as miniature cooks. Below are pictures of the process, step-by-step:

Mixing together all ingredients

Pour the Milk Syrup on top of the still steaming cake

15 minutes later the cake has soaked up much of the liquid and is ready for the refrigerator

Ready to serve, garnished with Coconut Flakes and a Walnut
