Lohuşa Şerbeti

New Mom Drink 

  • 6-7 c. Water
  • 1 ½ c. Sugar
  • 8 Whole Cloves
  • 6 Cinnamon Sticks
  • 5 drops Red Food Coloring
  • Chopped Walnuts, Almonds or Pine Nuts for garnish

 

  1. Mix all ingredients together in a saucepan on low heat.
  2. Bring mixture to a boil slowly, then allow to bubble for 5 minutes.
  3. Turn off heat and strain out Cloves and Cinnamon.
  4. According to the season, serve chilled or warm.
  5. Optional garnish: add Pine Nuts or chopped Walnuts or Almonds to the top of each glass

Note: In Turkey you can buy special Lohuşa sugar which will turn the drink a nice rosy color in which case you do not need to add any food coloring.
