Turkish-Style Apple Pie
Dough Ingredients:
- 2 Eggs
- ¼ c. Butter, slightly softened
- ¼ c. Milk
- ½ tsp. Vanilla
- 1 ½ c. Powdered Sugar
- 1 tsp Baking Powder
- 4 c. Flour
Filling Ingredients:
- 3 Apples
- 1 tsp. Cinnamon
- 3 T. Sugar
Topping Ingredient:
- 1 Egg Yolk
- Blend Eggs, Butter, Milk & Vanilla together, set aside.
- In a separate bowl mix together Powdered Sugar, Baking Powder & 2 c. Flour.
- Combine both mixtures and use your hands to mix, slowly adding more Flour (about 2 c. more) until the dough is good and firm. Set aside.
- Wash, peel and grate the Apples, then mix in Cinnamon & Sugar and set aside.
- Grease a pie pan* and press 2/3 of the dough on the bottom and sides.
- Spread the apple mixture evenly on top.
- Take remaining dough and roll small ropes to crisscross over the top of the pie.
- Brush the top with Egg Yolk.
- Bake pie at 350oF for 30-40 minutes.
* Glass Pie Pans in Turkey are rather large and always deep-dish style. The measurements listed above may be able to make 2 pies if using the traditional smaller pie pans in America. As you press the dough into your pie pan you will be able to determine if you have enough extra dough to make another pie as well. The dough will rise some as it bakes so will appear much thicker than the typical American pie crust, but it is loaded with Powdered Sugar and adds great flavor to the pie.

And your mom shared some with me!! It was delicious with my coffee. Not like our pies, but for me more of a breakfast cake (the dough is sweet) which is why I loved it with coffee.
